Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year!

As I reflect on this year with Just Moved! Ministries, I am reminded of the scripture, "...Mary quietly treasured these things in her heart and often thought about them." (Luke 2:19 TLB) I often think about the countless ways God continues to bless our ministry and I treasure them in my heart.

Every day, God surrounds me with faithful, devoted, and committed women who show up in our office to serve God and the thousands of women and families who relocate each year.  They create, co-ordinate, copy, cut, contact, celebrate, email, encourage, fold, label, mail, organize, plan, prepare, pray, staple, stamp, stick, stuff, ship, train, travel, and work the computers!

God has enlarged our classes and small groups in churches and neighborhoods, and expanded our military outreach worldwide.  He has changed lives through our ministry outreach as women and families come to know Christ and grow in their relationship with Him.  The overflow of our ministry has strengthened marriages in transition and equipped parents in helping their children adjust.

As I ponder all these things with gratefulness, my thoughts turn to you, my moving friends. You are loved and prayed for across the miles.  Even though I may not know your name or your face, I know your moving stories.

If I could reach out beyond your computer, look into your eyes and touch your hand, I would tell you that you are not forgotten in your maze of moving.  The pathway in your new place will eventually become familiar as you begin to start over and move forward with your life. Yes, it will take effort, perseverance, and determination, but you can do it.  How do I know? I recall a young woman named Mary, who must have had similar emotions when she traveled to an unknown place.  She went to unfamiliar surroundings to give birth to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Because of her effort, perseverance, and determination, you have the assurance of hope for today and tomorrow!

May you feel the love, joy, peace, and contentment of Jesus this Christmas season as you "move" closer to Him!

PS: Please send family Christmas pictures for our “Moving Families” bulletin board, and keep sending us your “moving stories” and testimonies. We love hearing from you!!

from Maureen in Indiana
I attended [Susan Miller’s] workshop in Grand Rapids (Hearts at Home Conference, November 7 & 8, 2008) recently and was touched by her calming personality, wisdom, and heart-felt concern for each person. In these difficult economic times when corporate relocation packages are disappearing, many families are forced to be separated for long periods of time while spouses secure work or sell homes.  I would ask that you pray for our family as we face these challenges. Thank you for the wonderful work you do.

(JM – Be assured, Maureen, we will be praying for you and your family as you face difficult times during your relocation. We hope you will keep us updated on how you’re doing and that you find encouragement through our website and any other resources that we can provide. May God be very real to you at this time.)

Just "Moved" to a new job...
(JM – The following is a message from a new friend of Just Moved! who heard Susan Miller interviewed on Focus on the Family Radio, July 22 & 23, 2008).

I was SO very blessed and KNOW it was an answer to prayer for me. I recently "moved" from one employer to another and my heart has just been aching and I couldn't seem to do anything to help it heal. As it turns out, I don't like my new job. I prayed specifically on July 21st, “God tell me something to help my heart.” I was on the verge of depression!

The show on July 22nd and 23rd about women and moving was God's answer to me. EVERYTHING [Susan Miller] said applied to how I was feeling about "moving" jobs, and leaving my friends and "home" behind. This morning a key phrase was when she said, "We have to learn the difference between cherishing and clinging to what we had." I knew I was grieving but thought it would have gone away sooner. (It's just been a month!)  Even though I don't really like my new job and it doesn't "fit" my personality (so...why would God put me in it?!?!), after listening yesterday and today, I now have peace at least that it is okay and God is SPECIFICALLY with me in this specific situation. Thank you so very much and blessings to you!

“It is no use to pray for the old days; stand square where you are and make the present better than any past has been. Base all on your relationship to God and go forward, and presently you will find that what is emerging is infinitely better than the past ever was.”

Salt Brine Turkey

Joan Langston, our office manager, roasts the most succulent turkey and we asked her to share her recipe!  Enjoy!

Ingredients
• 1 (14 to 16 pound)  young turkey, thawed

For the brine:
• 1 cup kosher salt
• 1/2 cup light brown sugar
• 1 gallon vegetable stock
• 1 tablespoon black peppercorns
• 1/2 tablespoon allspice berries
• 1/2 tablespoon candied ginger
• 1 gallon iced water

Directions
Combine all brine ingredients, except ice water, in a stockpot, and bring to a boil. Stir to dissolve solids, then remove from heat, cool to room temperature, and refrigerate until thoroughly chilled.
Early on the day of cooking, (or late the night before) combine the brine and ice water in a clean 5-gallon bucket. Place turkey, breast side down in brine, cover, and refrigerate or set in cool area (like a basement) for 6 hours. Turn turkey over once, half way through brining.

A few minutes before roasting, heat oven to 500 degrees. Remove bird from brine and rinse inside and out with cold water. Discard brine.

Place bird on roasting rack inside wide, low pan and pat dry with paper towels. Tuck back wings and coat whole bird liberally with canola (or other neutral) oil.

Roast on lowest level of the oven at 500 degrees F. for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and cover breast with double layer of aluminum foil, insert probe thermometer into thickest part of the breast and return to oven, reducing temperature to 350 degrees F. Set thermometer alarm (if available) to 161 degrees. An unstuffed 14 to 16 pound bird should require a total of 2 to 2 1/2 hours of roasting. Let turkey rest, loosely covered for 15 minutes before carving.

Christians
- By Maya Angelou

When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I'm clean living."
I'm whispering "I was lost.
Now I'm found and forgiven."
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
I'm confessing that I stumble
And need Christ to be my guide.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
I'm professing that I'm weak.
And need His strength to carry on.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of success.
I'm admitting I have failed.
And need God to clean my mess.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect.
My flaws are far too visible
But, God believes I am worth it.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches.
So I call upon His name.
When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not holier than thou.
I'm just a simple sinner
Who received God's good grace, somehow!
