Relocating Can Be Traumatic Event

Over 44 million people move every year! That is 1 in 5 people or 20% of the population! Studies show moving has a stressful to devastating effect on an individual, a family, and a career. For women especially, relocation can be a traumatic event. They often have no one to turn to after a move and can sink in to anger and depression.

Moving is more than loading and unloading boxes. It"s leaving behind everything familiar to face the unknown. There are countless questions and finding answers even to simple questions can cause grief to someone who has moved. Research has long since shown that moving is one of the top 10 traumas.

What happens when you move? Any woman who moves goes through a grieving process because she experiences a tangible loss. Women go through not only the stages of loss but also of disbelief, grief and anger before they recover.

"I call this trauma of moving the "Closet Illness," responds Susan Miller of Just Moved!, "because so many women have said I didn"t know anyone else felt like this! It"s important to have an understanding of what you are going through and to know that you are not alone."

Susan is the author of "After The Boxes Are Unpacked" and " But Mom, I Don"t Want To Move" and is an international speaker. In 1987, she created the successful "Moving On After Moving In’ NEWcomer classes that are offered throughout the U.S. and in many foreign countries. Several Valley locations offer these classes during the Fall and Spring.

"It takes courage to put down roots all over again. There are financial, emotional and spirtual challenges that come with a change of address. Maybe you have left behind your family support system and best friends." adds Susan. "My goal is to help make the moving transition easier so that women and their families can move forward with their life."

Locations for "Moving On After Moving In" classes are listed at www.justmoved.org. N.E.W. Ministries is an international outreach for women and their families who relocate and is based out of Scottsdale.
