So often as we go through our lives, we worry and fret over everything from the laundry to the news we see on the television. We make ourselves miserable by imagining the worst case scenarios and with that implementing negative thoughts in our brains. We have always heard you are what you think.
As I have grown older I realize that so many of the things I worried about didn’t happen and some of the things I worried about did happen. Want to know what I learned? There are many things I have no control over and I survived even some of the most hurtful times in my life. At the time I was going through many of the devastating times I could not even imagine living through them, but I did and with time I have learned that through the bad times we are given the chance to grow and to learn more about ourselves. We learn that we are strong, that we can stand a whole lot of things we never imagined that we could.
If I could go back to certain times in my life I would relax and enjoy the ride. My ride has given me so much more joy than unhappiness. I can see that now. Relaxing doesn’t mean lying down and resting, it means learning to relax and give things over to God. God knows that living in this life is rough, but he always offers us comfort, we must just learn to accept it. I know that it is hard to allow God to handle every situation in life that we deal with. It shouldn’t be, but it is. We are human and we try to fix things ourselves. It’s a hundred times easier to put our trust in the Lord and allow him to work through our lives.
I am constantly learning and getting to know things about myself. I hope I can remember even in the darkest of times to relax and enjoy the ride. For at the beginning and end of that ride there is hope, love and security…there is God.
